Most people rarely think about the impact color has on the world, however color is more important to daily life than you may think. Psychologically color can persuade us into buying things or make us act and feel a certain way. Ever wonder why the combination of red and yellow at fast food chains are so common? The red and yellow combination actually makes us think of food and hunger causing people to stop and grab a bit to eat. They even say to wear blue to a job interviews because of the color’s association to feeling trust and reliability.
Color shapes our world and causes us to feel and act a certain way when we see it. People also make snap judgments on products based on color. It is an important part of advertising and most designers have to go through color theory courses to understand the emotional and psychological effects color can have on the brain. I take color seriously when designing for companies and I try to make sure that the colors I am using fit into that companies overall brand and logo design.
So the next time you see a logo or find yourself staring certain color combinations, think about that color’s meaning and how it can persuade people into thinking or acting a certain way.
